Can You Put an RTX 4080 in a Dell Workstation? (Precision T7865)
I just got my most expensive single computer ever. It's an already-outdated Precision 7865 with an AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 64-core CPU, direct from Dell. RAM upgrades from the manufacturer are always a bit of a rip, so in this video I upgrade it to 512GB. Also, I find out for the first time whether a consumer graphics card (PNY / NVIDIA RTX 4080 16GB) will actually fit inside the moderately-sized chassis. Oh, and fit two Western Digital Black SN850X 4TB SSDs to replace the woeful 256GB el cheapo card that came with the system from Dell.
Absolutely nothing in this is a paid ad. It was paid for by my wallet. Buy Dell, HP, Asus, even Razer for all I care.

LeCroy WaveRunner 64Xi-A-N Oscilloscope Upgrade Attempt (a bit rambly, but it shows a full teardown)
Переглядів 3866 місяців тому
I got this LeCroy WaveRunner 64Xi-A-N Oscilloscope from eBay because I needed a faster scope than my best 200Mhz Siglent model. On eBay it looked super clean and in good cosmetic shape, and was shown and claimed to be working. When I received it, it would kinda start up, but the display was blank and overall it was unresponsive. When I went to make this video showing the investigation, it power...

Any charger that only uses a micro usb plug will never charge as quickly as a charger with a usb c plug as micro usb can only handle 7 or 8 watts whereas usb can can handle 60 watts if not more.

Let’s see … *IF* I were a lawyer in addition to having an electrical engineering degree… The closeness of those solder joints to the (grounded) chassis … form a rudimentary *_”spark gap”_* to shunt surges (sort of). 😀 That actually surprises me. MOVs are cheap! An EMI filter costs a *little bit* more, but for a device this pricey ... ??? The heat on those wires, though … unless that was *silicone* insulation, which is rated 200° C., you’d be lucky if they were rated 105°C. (if they were THHN conductors). Also, the purported suitability for _”stage”_ use … I would have put a breaker on each outlet. You wouldn’t want an overload/short on one device item plugged in to trip the breaker for the entire circuit, including all 10 outlets! Another thing, I didn’t see if that 12v power supply board had a thermistor _”resettable fuse”_ on it or not. Were I designing (some would say _”over-engineering”)_ it, I would have added some protection there, too. One last item, putting a *_switch mode_*_ power supply_ in a _”power conditioner”_ could be asking for trouble. I might have put a scope on the AC line to test for EMI from that thing chopping up the power willy nilly!

the stickers on basically all NVMe SSDs are technically thermal pads, and help with cooling. you'll see it if you take the sticker off and see the reflective metal underside. don't take it off, but if you do you won't take a flash chip with it.

No *MOVs?* Yet they call it a _"surge suppressor"?_ I would love to see that enclosure at a thrift store, though. I could populate my own circuit board in place of theirs. Gas Discharge Tubes, MOVs, TVS diodes, etc. Since they're routing those LEDs straight to ground, I'd love to know what the leakage current is.

This video is a bad faith argument. It overlooks so many factors between retail oxygen and MEDICAL GRADE oxygen. From personal experience, the product works. The cost is of, as it is always, convienence. The target audience for this product is not going to lug around steel canisters of medical grade oxygen that you have to have doctors and insurance involved.

I got a Dell Precision 7875 and installed the Inno3D GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER TWIN X2 in it. It fits fine and runs quiet. Make sure your graphics card is not too high and not too long. If the card is high it cannot have power connectors on the top. The mentioned Inno3D is low enough to have it's power connector on top. Workstation cards usually have the power connector at the back of the card. My model has a 1350W power supply and 4x 8 pin PCI-e power connectors.

I'd suggest looking at the Asus ProArt graphics cards for chassis like this one. It's a 2.5 slot card, instead of a 3+ slot, and an inch shorter. You'll still have to modify the case cover to remove the PCIe 'holder' , but you won't be restricting airflow within the case as much as with the XLR8, and gives you some clearance for routing the power cables

The bracket that holds the gpu cables is also used to hold the other end of a gpu so it does not sag. It needs a special bracket that attaches to the gpu and hooks to the bracket in front of the case fan.

Ngl, I would still buy this for the right price, I already own a power conditioner and surge protector, so just having the sequencer alone would make me happy. Not sure if $119CAD is a good deal or not, but I'm also not sure how much a good power sequencer would cost. Overall, even though they lied about some features, I'd still say it's probably pretty decent for what you get
